Oh what FUN
Content warnings: cancer
I’m not normally a fan of isekai plots, but I was in turn kicking my little feet and giggling before gasping in shock as the plot twists kept coming.
Things are looking grim for cancer patient Rae when she somehow falls into her favorite fantasy series, taking over not the body of a hero, but a villain. She needs to get her hands on a flower that only blooms on one day a year if she has any hope of returning to her own world. The problem? She doesn’t remember the first book. But she’s confident that she can keep things on track, and begins to recruit Evil Minions to help her stir the plot, all the while waiting for her favorite character to make his infamous transformation. It’s no big deal to be a villain when the people around her are only storybook characters, right? Except, as the body count begins to climb, Rae is less and less sure what is fiction and what is real.
Long Live Evil is both a hilarious romp through tropes and memes and a fantasy epic in its own right. It is a love letter to readers of fantasy, fandom culture, and the morally gray characters we know and love. I can’t wait for the sequel!
